Skin-care experts swear by the power of grapefruit to help fade those unsightly brown spots that form on the neck, hands and face due to an overproduction of melanin (skin’s pigment). “Grapefruit is rich in vitamin C, a proven inhibitor of tyrosinase, the enzyme that regulates melanin production,” says facialist Joanna Vergas. “And the citric acid in grapefruit is a natural skin brightener.” Plus, the fruit flavonoids help increase cell turnover and its alphahydroxy acids dissolve dead skin cells. The result? Fresh, even skin.
TO DO: Mix 2 Tbs. of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice with ¼ cup of plain Greek yogurt (its lactic acid helps remove dry skin cells) and 2 tsp. of honey (its antioxidants protect skin from damaging UV rays). Dab the mixture onto any spots and let sit 15 minutes; rinse. Use three times a week for results in under a month.
